As legend has it, the first granny squares came about when yarn scraps and unraveled fibers were carefully saved so that they could be crocheted into small squares that could be reused in something useful like a warm crochet coat. Granny squares have been around since 1897, but we can’t help noticing how they’re currently popping up everywhere from the catwalk to Instagram – they've even been seen at The Enchanted Trunk.
